ABOUT THE SERIES

‘The Dreamer - Becoming Karen Blixen’ is a six-part tv-series inspired by the life and the letters of the world famous writer and icon Karen Blixen.

The story is set in the 1930’s, when Karen returns to Denmark after many years in East Africa - bankrupt, sick, and divorced. Her lover has passed away and all her dreams are crushed. Karen reluctantly moves in with her mother at the childhood home. “The Dreamer” is the touching story of Karen’s fight to rise again, and to pursue her overriding dream of breaking through as the incomparable artist she is deep down. At the same time, we follow her struggle for financial freedom, her showdown with the upper-class family and her efforts to overcome illness, despair and loss. The series works with flashbacks from Karen's life in East Africa, as well as fragments from her famous short story 'The Dreamers'.

The Danish international star Connie Nielsen (“Wonder Woman”, “Gladiator”) plays Karen Blixen and is also executive producing.

The Dreamer is created by Dunja Gry, by idea of Connie Nielsen and Karoline Leth and directed by Jeanette Nordahl. The series is a Viaplay Original produced by Zentropa’s Karoline Leth, Marie Cecilie Gade and Charlotte Hjordt in collaboration with Belga and Stage 5 and with support from Public Service Fund, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, Wallimage, the Belgian Federal Government Tax Shelter and co-funded by The European Union. Executive producer from Viaplay Group is Marlene Billie Andreasen.

International sales are handled by TrustNordisk and Viaplay Content Distribution.
