International Film Festival Rotterdam selects psychological thriller SUPERPOSITION by debut director Karoline Lyngbye. The film will play in the Limelight section, where it will have its world premiere (25 January - 05 February 2023).
Copenhagen, 19 December 2023 – International Film Festival Rotterdam has selected psychological thriller SUPERPOSITION directed by upcoming director Karoline Lyngbye. The film will take the audience on a thrilling, supernatural experience as we follow a young couple who moves out in forest in the middle of nowhere hoping to breathe new life into their relationship and find themselves. But you must be careful with what you wish for. The film will world premiere as part of the Limelight section.
SUPERPOSITION is the debut feature of director Karoline Lyngbye, who also co-wrote the script with Mikkel Bak Sørensen. The feature was one of the 13 genre projects that was presented at last year’s Frontières Platform during the Cannes Marché du Film in 2021. Amalie Lyngbo Quist of Copenhagen-based Beo Starling produces.
The film will be headlined by Danish actress Marie Bach Hansen (WHITE SANDS, 2021; THE LEGACY, 2014-2017; THIS LIFE, 2012) and EFP Shooting Star 2013-winning Mikkel Boe Følsgaard (THE RAIN, 2018-2020; LAND OF MINE, 2015; A ROYAL AFFAIR, 2012), who won the Silver Bear for ‘Best Actor’ at Berlin International Film Festival for his role in A ROYAL AFFAIR.
Managing Director of TrustNordisk, Susan Wendt, comments on the selection:
‘We are proud and happy to have SUPERPOSITION selected for IFFR! This is a film with a greatly mystifying story that keeps you glued to the screen, while portraying the normal lives of a couple in crisis. We congratulate Karoline Lyngbye and everyone else involved for this selection.’
Synopsis:
The creative couple Stine and Teit and their young son Nemo leave the urban life in Copenhagen behind, trading the comforts of the city for a sustainable shelter in the middle of a remote, Swedish forest. They hope to reignite the spark in their relationship and find themselves as individuals, while they document their new lifestyle in an ongoing podcast series.
One day, Nemo disappears in the woods, and when Stine finds him again, he is frightened of her, insisting that she is not his mother. Their new surroundings begin to become increasingly hostile, and soon old grudges and selfish desires begin to take over, forcing them to confront their own egos.
SUPERPOSITION is directed by Karoline Lyngbye and produced by Amalie Lyngbo Quist for Beo Starling, with a script by Karoline Lyngbye and Mikkel Bak Sørensen.
