Written and directed by Swedish filmmaker Isabella Carbonell, the flick follows the Twins who are homeless, invisible and constantly struggling to survive. Sister is a ticking time bomb; her screams are loud. On the other hand, Brother doesn’t speak but screams inwards. Their dream of a real home leads to an unexpected job opportunity that sounds simple enough: Transport goods from point A to point B. But when the goods appear in the form of two young girls, a rift suddenly occurs between Brother and Sister. Over the course of two intense days, the twins are forced to make a life-altering decision: how far are they willing to go in their quest for a better future?
Dogborn stars Swedish actor Philip Oros alongside Silvana Imam, the acclaimed Swedish rapper best known for her politically fueled lyrics, in her feature film debut. Additional credits include Maja Dennhag as Cinematographer, Elle Furudahl as Production Designer, Linda Jildmalm as Editor, Ted Krotkiewski as Sound Designer, Sanna Nyström as Costume Designer, Erika Nicklasson as Make-up Designer, and the film’s score has been composed by NISJ.
The film is produced by Farima Karimi, Erik Andersson, and David Herdies. Dogborn also marks Carbonell’s feature debut. In a statement, Carbonell said she had been on a “decade-long fight” to produce Dogborn.
“I wish for this film to have a genuine impact on anyone who sees it, regardless of background or prior insight into the world where Dogborn takes place,” she said. “Whoever you are I want you to take this story with you. And preferably, when the end credits appear, you will feel slightly out of breath.”
Dogborn will have its world premiere at Venice Critics’ Week. TrustNordisk is handling world sales.
