SHAMELESS starts its tale about young Adrian in the summer of 1951. Lillian and Amund have their first and only child: A boy. Or is it a girl? The parents refuse the surgery that could have made Adrian a complete person. Instead he grows up as a hermaphrodite. Adrian grows up in an atmosphere of pretentiousness, silence, lies and the only comfort Adrian finds is in the school play, where he plays Oedipus. A role he seems born for… In the summer of 1966, Adrian overhears the conversation that will summarise and seal his fate. He does not choose the role of victim, but of assailant: He declares war on his parents.
