VINTERBERG'S THE HUNT WINS NORDIC COUNCIL FILM PRIZE 2013

31-10-2013

Thomas Vinterberg´s award-winning drama THE HUNT has just received the Nordic Council Film Prize 2013. With the honour comes also a cash prize of 47.000 EUR to be shared between the director, scriptwriter and producers.

This also marks a personal triumph for Vinterberg, as this is the second time he receives the prize. He was also awarded the Nordic Council Film Prize in 2010 for his film SUBMARINO.

THE HUNT, which has also been selected as Denmark´s official entry for the Academy Award ® for Best Foreign Language Film world premiered at Cannes International Film Festival last year, where it took home the Best Actor Award (Mads Mikkelsen), The Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and The Vulcain Prize for the Technical Artist (Charlotte Bruus Christensen).

Continuing its festival life in Telluride, Toronto, Busan and London among others, winning the British Independent Film Award for Best International Independent Film and with Thomas Vinterberg and Tobias Lindholm receiving the European Film Award for Best Screenwriter, THE HUNT consolidated its position as a festival favourite with large international appeal. A position which was already established with TrustNordisk selling the film to close to every territory in the world right after its World Premiere in Cannes in May 2012.

Opening internationally to great reviews and results at the box office, the film showed great staying power which continued at its domestic release. THE HUNT opened to excellent reviews and became the second biggest opening local film in more than a decade in the Danish cinemas and with close to 700,000 admissions it made it to the top 5 of most seen Danish films since 2000.

Directed by Thomas Vinterberg, THE HUNT tells the story about a man fighting against a lie that threatens to destroy his life and stars acclaimed actor Mads Mikkelsen, who can soon been seen starring as Hannibal Lecter in the second season of NBC's hit-series HANNIBAL.

THE HUNT is produced by Sisse Graum Jørgensen and Morten Kaufmann for Zentropa Entertainments19 in co-production with Film i Väst and Zentropa International Sweden with support from The Danish Film Institute, Danish Broadcasting Corporation, Eurimages, Nordic Film & TV Fond, The Swedish Film Institute, Swedish Television and the MEDIA programme of the European Union.
