Thomas Vinterberg is poised to make a feature film version of his play, The Commune, which he staged successfully at the Burgtheater Vienna.
It is yet to be determined whether the film will be made through Zentropa, the production outfit behind The Hunt, or if it will shoot in or outside Denmark. The film dramatises events on the commune where Vinterberg grew up in the ´70s and ´80s.
However, the Danish director expressed his happiness at being back in the Zentropa fold.
“Zentropa is a completely new place,” Vinterberg, who made Festen there in 1998, commented. “I really enjoy working there...it´s a joy ride and I will continue working there.”
Zentropa´s Peter Aalbaek Jensen has confirmed that Vinterberg is working on a new project (although he refused to confirm the title) for the company. “We are talking about making a little local Danish movie,” Aalbaek Jensen said. “He will start working on a script in the autumn.”
The news of The Commune comes as TrustNordisk reports bumper sales on Vinterberg´s Competition title The Hunt.
New deals confirmed include Russia (Russian Report), Poland (KinoSwiat), Romania (Independenta Film ´97), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Cinemart), Greece (Seven Films), Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay (Speed Well), Israel (Lev Cinemas), Colombia (Babille), Former Yugoslavia and Albania (Cinemania group).
Previously announced deals include UK (Arrow Films), Benelux (WildBunch) and France (Pretty Pictures).
