TrustNordisk is proud and happy to be presenting two strong titles for 14plus at next year´s Berlin Film Festival. Two features which share the common denominator that although they are about young culture, they are for all ages.
SKYSCRAPER is a poetic coming of age love story with a touch of black comedy.The sleepy little town that 17 year old Jon calls home saw its future as a bustling city center with high rises and traffic lights until a bizarre car crash killed these dreams eight years ago. Jon was blamed for the accident and has been blamed for everything that goes wrong here ever since. His father is the first to remind him of this, keeping Jon on a very short leash but when the blind girl Edith surprises Jon with a daring request, Jon gradually realizes that things can change...
Rune Schjøtt has written the script and directed the film. Schjøtt co-wrote the prizewinning DARK HORSE (2005) with Icelandic director Dagur Kari and he wrote YOUNG MAN FALLING (2007), which was selected for the International Critic´s Week at Cannes Film Festival. Schjøtt´s directial debut was the prizewinning short film THE PANDA SYNDROME (2006). SKYSCRAPER is Schjøtt´s first feature film.
The film is produced by Morten Kjems Juhl for Fine & Mellow, which is behind internationally acclaimed titles such as TERRIBLY HAPPY (2008) and CHINAMAN (2005). Marcel Zyskind, who has collaborated on several of Michael Winterbottom´s films, is cinematographer.
The other film selected, REBOUNCE, tells an intense drama story about a young girl's search for the unattainable love of her mother. Louise's mother is just out of prison and in the eye of a teenager she's cool, tough and enchanting. To win her love, Louise follows her lead and enters a world of partying, drugs, fast cash and men. Meanwhile, everyone seems to forget that she is just a teenager.
Director Heidi Maria Faisst graduated in direction at the National Film School of Denmark in 2003. Her graduation film, THE PACT, was selected for Cinéfondation, Cannes. She is furthermore writer and director on winner of two awards at Göteborg Film Festival, of THE BLESSING (2008), which won the international critic´s prize, the FIPRESCI award amongst others. REBOUNCE is produced for Zentropa Entertainments by Meta Louise Foldager.
Berlin Film Festival 2011 takes place February 10-20.
