One is a musical, the other a melodrama - together they share a
dreamy, colorful and life-affirming expression and impression guaranteed
to bring a smile on your face. TrustNordisk is happy to see that Simon
Staho´s LOVE IS IN THE AIR and Ella Lemhagen´s THE CROWN JEWELS have
been officially selected for Berlin International Film Festiva´s
Generation 14plus.
LOVE IS IN THE AIR
Produced
by Jonas Frederiksen for Zentropa Entertainments5 and supported by the
Danish Film Institute, LOVE IS IN THE AIR is a spectacular, romantic
musical where anything can happen and WILL happen as four teenagers risk
their feelings and dreams in the space of a single, extraordinary
night. LOVE IS IN THE AIR is a tribute to youth. It celebrates you who
still dare to dream, sing, dance and say “YES! YES! YES!”
The
film marks director Simon Staho´s return to the Berlinale, where he
screened the much appraised chamber drama HEAVEN´S HEART (2008) starring
Lena Endre and Mikael Persbrandt, who also starred in the ensemble
drama DAY & NIGHT (2004), which won the Silver Hugo Award at Chicago
International Film Festival. Staho´s uncompromising and distinct style
has also brought him to San Sebastian Film Festival, officially selected
for Main Competition with BANG BANG ORANGUTANG (2005) and DAISY DIAMOND
(2007).
THE CROWN JEWELS
“Ella
Lemhagen´s THE CROWN
JEWELS stands strong in competition with The Twilight Series and other
fantasy tales” wrote the newspaper Sydsvenskan, when the film premiered
in Sweden. The stylistically Tim Burton-inspired melodrama with two
Shooting Stars starring opposite each other - last festiva´s Alicia
Vikander and this festiva´s Bill Skarsgård - tells the remarkable life
story of Fragancia Fernandez, who is arrested for attempting to murder
the son of a very powerful factory owner. In magical flashbacks during
interrogation, which span over 20 years, we find out why.
Following
their successful collaboration on PATRIK, AGE 1,5 (2008), production
company Filmlance International with producers Tomas Michaelsson and
Lars Blomgren on board
is re-partnering with director Ella Lemhagen on THE CROWN JEWELS, which
is supported by the Swedish Film Institute and will also air as
TV-series domestically January 2nd 2012. Director Ella Lemhagen is not
in Berlin for the first time. In 2000 she won the Silver Bear for Best
Feature with TSATSIKI (1999) and in 2004 she participated in
Kinderfilmfest competition with IMMEDIATE BOARDING, produced by Tomas
Michaelsson and Charlotta Denward. THE CROWN JEWELS will celebrate its
International Premiere in Generation 14plus.
The 62th Berlin International Film Festival takes place February 9-19th 2012
