TrustNordisk will be handling international sales of Finnish drama PURGE, directed by Antti Jokinen.
PURGE is based on Sofi Oksanen´s bestselling and prize-winning novel about two women from two different eras, who are linked by separate tales of deceit, desperation - and fear. The novel has more than 38 international publishers, it won the European Book Prize 2010 and Prix Femina Étranger 2010 amongst others and Sunday Times in UK chose PURGE as one of the best books of 2010.
Finnish born director Antti Jokinen (b. 1968) graduated from East Carolina University in the US, majoring in Broadcast and Film. With a background in producing for MTV, he has directed music videos for artists such as Celine Dion, Wyclef Jean and Westlife. His first feature length film THE RESIDENT, starring Hillary Swank and Christopher Lee,
opened in the US and UK 2011.
PURGE stars some of the most respected Finnish actors and actresses such as Liisi Tandefelt, Laura Birn, Amanda Pilke and Peter Franzén and is produced by Finland's leading film production house, Solar Films (Head of production, Markus Selin), who dominate the attendance figures of domestic films this year, collecting a whole of 78 % of
attendance for local films.
PURGE is supported by Finnish Film Foundation, Estonian Film Foundation, MEDIA, and Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Co-producer is Estonian TASKA FILM. Nordisk Film is domestic distributor.
Shooting of PURGE will take place during August - December in Estonia. Domestic release is September 2012.
