- CANNES 2016: The Danish international sales agency has licensed six Nordic films to HGC Entertainment and four to DD Dream International Media
TrustNordisk signs large package deals for Chinese distribution at Cannes
At the Cannes Film Market, Copenhagen-based international sales agency TrustNordisk has closed two major package deals with Chinese distribution companies HGC Entertainment and DD Dream International Media.
HGC buyer Peter Li signed for six Nordic features, including Swedish director Hannes Holm´s local chart-topper A Man Called Ove, starring Swedish actor Rolf Lassgård, which sold more tickets in Sweden within the last year than any other film; Finnish director Saara Cantell's period drama Devil's Bride; Danish director Mads Matthiesen´s The Model; Swedish director Lisa Ohlin´s Danish feature Walk with Me; Danish director Nicolo Donato's Across the Waters, about Jews fleeing the Nazis during World War II; and Jesper W Nielsen´s The Day Will Come, portraying a provincial orphanage.
DD Dream´s Elizabeth Yang acquired four Nordic titles, comprising Danish director Ole Borneda´s black comedy Small Town Killers, about two artisans who are fed up with their lifeless marriages, and hire a Russian assassin to do away with their wives; Norwegian director Nils Gaup´s historical action-adventure The Last King; Norwegian director Erik Skjoldbjærg´s Pyromaniac, about an arsonist in a small community, who is one of the village firemen; and Norwegian director Vibeke Idsøe´s The Lion Woman, which will open this year´s Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund (read the news).
Besides DD Dream, Idsøe´s drama about a girl who was born in 1912 with hair covering her whole body and still managed to live an extraordinary life was picked up by French distributor First International Production. It has also been sold to Benelux (September Film), South America (California Filmes), the former Yugoslavia (Cinemania Group), Turkey (Sinema TV Yay. VE Prod), the Czech Republic (Fenix Distribution), Estonia (Estin Film) and Hong Kong (EDKO Films).
