TrustNordisk is thrilled to announce that Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired the US distribution rights for Anders Thomas Jensen’s THE LAST VIKING.
The deal was negotiated between Peter Goldwyn, President at Samuel Goldwyn Films, and Susan Wendt, Managing Director at TrustNordisk.

THE LAST VIKING celebrated its world premiere at Venice International Film Festival in August where it received standing ovations from audiences and rave reviews from the critics. This was followed by the North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month where it continued its successful international roll-out. The sale to the US adds to the long list of more than 62 territories that have previously acquired the film including Spain, Germany, Italy, Benelux and Japan to name a few.
Starring Mads Mikkelsen (ANOTHER ROUND, 2020; FANTASTIC BEASTS, 2022), Nikolaj Lie Kaas (RIDERS OF JUSTICE, 2020) and Sofie Gråbøl (THE KILLING, 2007-2012 and THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT, 2018) among others, THE LAST VIKING tells a humorous, intriguing, and devious tale about identity.
THE LAST VIKING marks Anders Thomas Jensen’s sixth feature as a director. All six films star Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas. Since his short film ELECTION NIGHT, for which he took home the Academy Award ® for Best Short in 1999, he has directed feature films, all of which underline his unique artistic signature and flair for quirky comedies with thematic resonance.
Anders Thomas Jensen has furthermore consolidated himself as one of the most sought-after scriptwriters and has gained widespread recognition over the course of more than two decades, having written the scripts for some of the most successful Danish films, including 3 DOGME95-films as well as the Academy Award ®-nominated feature AFTER THE WEDDING (2006), Academy Award®-winner IN A BETTER WORLD (2010) and as co-writer of THE PROMISED LAND (2023).
Synopsis
Anker is released from prison following a fifteen-years sentence for robbery. The money from the heist was buried by Anker’s brother, Manfred. Only he knows where it is. Unfortunately, Manfred has since developed a mental disorder, causing him to forget all. Together, the brothers embark on an unexpected journey to locate the money and discover who they really are.
THE LAST VIKING is written and directed by Anders Thomas Jensen and produced by Sisse Graum Jørgensen and Sidsel Hybschmann for Zentropa Entertainments4 in co-production with Zentropa Sweden and Film i Väst with support from Danish Film Institute, FilmFyn, Eurimages – Council of Europe, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, Swedish Film Institute, with support from the European Union, in collaboration with Nordisk Film Distribution A/S & TV 2 DANMARK.
