Copenhagen, DK 9 October, 2023 – We are thrilled to announce that TrustNordisk has secured international sales rights of the much-anticipated action film STOCKHOLM BLOODBATH. Inspired by one of Sweden and Denmark’s most brutal and dark events, this film promises to be an epic portrayal of history.
Produced by Helena Danielsson for Viaplay Studios and directed by Mikael Håfström, known for his versatility in acclaimed films such as the Oscar-nominated EVIL (2003), the successful Stephen King adaptation 1408 (2007), and the thrilling ESCAPE PLAN (2013) with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Recently, Håfström directed the upcoming sci-fi thriller SLINGSHOT (2024) that features Casey Affleck and Laurence Fishburne.
STOCKHOLM BLOODBATH boasts a star-studded cast of Nordic and international actors, including Claes Bang, renowned for his roles in THE SQUARE (2017) and DRACULA (2020), Sophie Cookson (KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, 2014), Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, winner of the Silver Bear for his performance in A ROYAL AFFAIR (2012) and Ulrich Thomsen from the series BANSHEE (2013-2016). Notable additions to the cast include Emily Beecham, Cannes Best Actress-winner LITTLE JOE (2019), and Kate Ashfield from SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004).
Synopsis:
In 1520, the notorious and power-hungry Danish King Christian II is determined to seize the Swedish crown from Sten Sture, no matter what it takes. Meanwhile, sisters Freja and Anne make a solemn promise to seek revenge on the men who brutally murdered their family. Everything comes to a head in the heart of Stockholm, where the sisters are drawn into a ruthless political struggle between Sweden and Denmark that culminates in a mass execution, presided over by the mad King "Christian the Tyrant," known as the Stockholm Bloodbath.
Action, attitude, and dark humor all come together in this tale, based on a surprising number of true events.
