TrustNordisk has boarded international sales rights of THE QUIET MIGRATION that has been officially selected for Competition as part of the Panorama programme at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, where it will celebrate its world premiere (16-26 February 2023).
Copenhagen, 15 December 2022 – We are proud and happy to have boarded the international sales rights of THE QUIET MIGRATION, a film about the ties of blood and kindred, and the questions that arise from the need of belonging. The film will world premiere as part of the Panorama programme at Berlin International Film Festival, it was announced today.
'We are very excited to meet an audience for the first time and so stoked that it can be at such a fantastic platform as Berlin Film Festival, which means the world for our film and is paramount for its journey onwards," states the producer behind the film Maria Møller Kjeldgaard.
THE QUIET MIGRATION is written and directed by Malene Choi, and marks her debut feature after having made the hybrid doc-fiction THE RETURN (2018), which similarly is about transnational adoption, and which had its world premiere at The International Rotterdam Film Festival. THE QUIET MIGRATION has already gained international attention after being selected for the prestigious Torino ScriptLab as well as developed at New Horizon Studio, Sources and presented at Discovery at the Gothenburg Film Festival.
Writer/Director Choi elegantly explores the main character's unresolved desire to discover more about his birth and roots in South Korea, blending her keen documentarian eyes with distinctive dreamlike elements to striking effect. The film is produced by Maria Møller Kjeldgaard for Manna Film.
THE QUIET MIGRATION stars young talent Cornelius Won Riedel-Clausen in the lead opposite to Bodil Jørgensen (THE KINGDOM EXODUS, 2022) and Bjarne Henriksen (THE KILLING, 2007).
Managing Director of TrustNordisk, Susan Wendt, comments on the acquisition and selection:
'We are proud to represent the talented director Malene and her film, which subtly explores the question of longing and belonging in a beautiful and wondrous way while highlighting the need for more such films to be made. We congratulate the team on this achievement and can't wait for the film to meet its international audience in Berlin'.
