TrustNordisk is thrilled to announce that Norwegian disaster movie THE WAVE is selected for the 40th Toronto International Film Festival. The film will celebrate its international premiere as a part of the Special Presentations program.
“I can´t recall when I last saw a disaster movie of this quality. With high production value, world class drama and Roar´s directing The Wave is simply in a league of its own. The fact that the film was presold to most territories on a teaser underlines the hype of this film. We are super excited that the film can live up to this hype and that Toronto has selected the film.” says CEO Rikke Ennis.
The Wave celebrated its world premiere as the opening film of Haugesund International Film Festival this Sunday and will have its Norwegian release on August 28. Directed by Roar Uthaug (COLD PREY, 2006 and ESCAPE, 2012), THE WAVE is based on true events.
80 years ago, a number of villages in Norway were hit by a huge tsunami when a mountainside collapsed and caused damage and casualties in the fjords. Geologists say that it is just a matter of time, when it will happen again.
Starring Kristoffer Joner (KING OF DEVIL´S ISLAND, 2010 and ALL THAT MATTERS IS PAST, 2012) and Ane Dahl Torp (PIONEER, 2012 and 1001 GRAMS, 2014) among others, THE WAVE takes its starting point just prior to the incident in our time and focuses on an experienced geologist whose worst nightmare is about to come true when the alarm goes off and the disaster is inevitable. With less than 10 minutes to react, it becomes a race against time in order to save as many as possible.
THE WAVE is produced by Martin Sundland and Are Heidenstrøm for Fantefilm Fiksjon in co-production with Fuzz, Filmkraft Invest, Storyline Studios, Film i Väst, Piggy Bænk, Copenhagen Film Fund, Ghost and Tre Vänner and Gimpville with support from The Norwegian Film Institute and Nordic Film & TV Fond and The Swedish Film Institute.
