Thomas Vinterberg's drama ANOTHER ROUND produced by Zentropa continues its world-wide success story among buyers, media and festivals. The film's leading cast has won the Silver Shell for ‘Best Actor’ at the 68th San Sebastián International Film Festival. This year, the Silver Shell has been awarded to all four Danish actors: Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Magnus Millang and Lars Ranthe.
The ‘Best Actor’ Award was first presented in 1953 and has previously been awarded to internationally acclaimed actors such as Javier Bardem, Ian McKellen, Michael Caine, Al Pacino, Nicolas Cage, James Stewart, Jack Lemmon, Kirk Douglas, Marcello Mastroianni and Sidney Poitier. The only other Danish actor to have received the award is Ulrich Thomsen for the film BROTHERS in 2005, and it is only the third time that the award has been presented to several actors from the same film.
In addition, the film has received two other awards: The Zinemaldia Feroz award given by the Spanish press, and the Signis Award given by the World Catholic Association for Communication.
These wins once again underlines the quality of Vinterberg’s latest feature, which has already been highly praised internationally. Prior to these awards, the drama received the official selection label at Cannes Film Festival 2020, in addition to its selection for Toronto International Film Festival 2020, where ANOTHER ROUND had its international premiere.

Vinterberg's reunion includes fellow Academy Award®-nominee and co-screenwriter Tobias Lindholm as well as internationally acclaimed actors Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Lars Ranthe and Magnus Millang, who previously starred in Vinterberg's dramas THE COMMUNE (2016) and THE COMMAND (2018).
ANOTHER ROUND just had its local release in Danish cinemas on September 24th 2020. The film was released on 170 screens in 135 cinemas.
Synopsis
There’s a theory that we should be born with a small amount of alcohol in our blood, and that modest inebriation opens our minds to the world around us, diminishing our problems and increasing our creativity. Heartened by that theory, Martin and three of his friends, all weary high school teachers, embark on an experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday. If Churchill won WW2 in a heavy daze of alcohol, who knows what a few drops might do for them and their students?
Initial results are positive, and the teachers’ little project turns into a genuine academic study. Both their classes and their results continue to improve, and the group feels alive again! As the units are knocked back, some of the participants see further improvement and others go off the rails. It becomes increasingly clear that while alcohol may have fueled great results in world history, some bold acts carry consequences.

In 2011, he received the European Film Academy’s honorary award of European Achievement in World Cinema.
