16-01-2014

Thomas Vinterberg´s Cannes competition film and award-winning drama THE HUNT has just been nominated for an Academy Award ® in the Best Foreign Language Film Category.

THE HUNT is nominated together with THE GREAT BEAUTY (Italy), THE BROKEN CIRCLE BREAKDOWN (Belgium), THE MISSING PICTURE (Cambodia) and OMAR (Palestine).

Vinterberg´s THE HUNT tells the story about a man fighting against a lie that threatens to destroy his life and stars acclaimed actor and international star Mads Mikkelsen who received the Best Actor Award in connection with the World Premiere at Cannes International Film Festival 2012. Here the film also took home The Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and The Vulcain Prize for the Technical Artist (Charlotte Bruus Christensen).

Continuing its festival life in Telluride, Toronto, Busan and London among others, winning the British Independent Film Award for Best International Independent Film and with Thomas Vinterberg and Tobias Lindholm receiving the European Film Award for Best Screenwriter, THE HUNT consolidated its position as a festival favourite with large international appeal.

In October last year Vinterberg received the Nordic Council Film Prize, and recently THE HUNT was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the Independent Spirit Award in the Best International Film Category and a Golden Satellite Award nomination for Best Motion Picture, International Film. At Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier this month Mads Mikkelsen received the FIPRESCI Prize for Best Actor of the Year in Foreign Language Films for his performance in THE HUNT.

Opening internationally to excellent reviews and results at the box office, THE HUNT showed great staying power which continued at its domestic release in January 2013 where THE HUNT became the second biggest opening local film in more than a decade in the Danish cinemas. With close to 700,000 admissions it made it to the top 5 of most seen Danish films of the last decade.

The winner of the Academy Award® for Best Foreign Language Film will be announced at the 86th Academy Award Ceremony which will be held on March 2nd 2014.
