Thomas Vinterberg´s Cannes
competition film and award-winning drama THE HUNT has been nominated for a
Golden Globe Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
THE HUNT, which is also Denmark´s official entry for the Academy Award ® for
Best Foreign Language Film this year, is nominated for a Golden Globe along
with BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR, THE GREAT BEAUTY, THE PAST and THE WIND RISES.
“This is spectacular news.
Once again I am tremendously overjoyed on behalf of the whole team behind the
film. The Golden Globe Awards is among the heavyweights and there is a certain
satisfaction in seeing how this dark story we dug out of our own
backyard in Denmark doesn´t only resonate in Europe but also in
America. Somehow it seems our little local story has become universal and
I am very proud of that”, says director
Thomas Vinterberg about the nomination.
Vinterberg´s THE HUNT tells the story about a man fighting against a lie that
threatens to destroy his life and stars acclaimed actor and international star
Mads Mikkelsen who received the Best Actor Award in connection with the World
Premiere at Cannes International Film Festival last year, where the film also
took home The Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and The Vulcain Prize for the
Technical Artist (Charlotte Bruus Christensen).
Continuing its festival life in Telluride, Toronto, Busan and London among
others, winning the British Independent Film Award for Best International
Independent Film and with Thomas Vinterberg and Tobias Lindholm receiving the
European Film Award for Best Screenwriter, THE HUNT consolidated its position
as a festival favourite with large international appeal. In October this year
Vinterberg received the Nordic Council Film Prize, and recently THE HUNT was
nominated for the Independent Spirit Award in the Best International Film
Category and a Golden Satellite Award nomination for Best Motion Picture,
International Film.
Opening internationally to excellent reviews and results at the box office,
THE HUNT showed great staying power which continued at its domestic release in
January 2013 where THE HUNT became the second biggest opening local film in
more than a decade in the Danish cinemas and with close to 700,000 admissions
it made it to the top 5 of most seen Danish films since 2000.
THE HUNT is produced by Sisse Graum Jørgensen and Morten Kaufmann for Zentropa
Entertainments19 in co-production with Film i Väst and Zentropa International
Sweden with support from The Danish Film Institute, Danish Broadcasting
Corporation, Eurimages, Nordic Film & TV Fond, The Swedish Film Institute,
Swedish Television and the MEDIA programme of the European Union.
The Golden Globes are presented by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association
and the winner will be announced at the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards which
will be held on Sunday January 12th 2014.
