Kidman will star in and executive produce the complicated, blended-family drama, which is based on Maria Sødahl's Oscar hopeful.
Nicole Kidman has lined up her latest star vehicle.
Via her Blossom Films banner, which has a first-look deal with Amazon Studios, Kidman is set to star in and executive produce a series adaptation of the Norwegian film Hope. Like the original, which was selected as the Norwegian entry for Best International Feature Film category at this year’s Oscars, the series is being billed as a complicated, blended-family drama. It’s expected to chronicle twelve days of a family’s Christmas together, including the unravelling of a marriage, with six children between them.
News of the project comes as Kidman’s plate continues to be extremely full. The prolific Emmy (and Oscar) winner is currently on the awards circuit promoting her HBO hit The Undoing, which came on the heels of a second season of the same network’s Big Little Lies. Kidman will follow that pairing by re-teaming with David E. Kelly on Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers, based on another Liane Moriarty novel. To that end, Hope is being adapted by Alice Bell, who’s already in the Blossom Films fold with another Amazon series, The Expatriates, which Kidman is set to star in. And that’s just in TV.
The Norwegian film, which Amazon acquired the rights to for Kidman's company, was written and directed by Maria Sødahl, for whom the heartfelt drama is deeply personal. It stars Andrea Bræin Hovig and Stellan Skarsgard, and has already won the European Cinemas Label award at the Berlin Film Festival and was nominated for best director and best actress at the 2020 European Academy Awards. The series version will be executive produced by Kidman, Bell and Blossom Films' Per Saari.
