THE HERE AFTER selected for Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes

21-04-2015

Director Magnus von Horn´s debut feature, the Polish/Swedish production THE HERE AFTER has been selected for Directors´ Fortnight at this year´s Cannes International Film Festival.

With THE HERE AFTER Magnus von Horn presents a powerful drama and a study of human nature, focusing on whether it is possible to return to a small community after committing the ultimate crime.

When John returns home to his father after serving time in prison, he is looking forward to starting his life afresh. However in the local community, his crime is neither forgotten nor forgiven. John´s presence brings out the worst in everyone around him and a lynch-mob atmosphere slowly takes shape. Feeling abandoned by his former friends and the people he loves, John loses hope and the same aggressions that previously sent him to prison start building up again. Unable to leave the past behind, he decides to confront it.

Magnus von Horn is a graduate from the prestigious Polish National Film School in Lodz and has already received numerous awards and international acclaim for his short film productions. One of the two producers of the film, Mariusz Włodarski, has been selected for this year's Producers on the Move at Cannes and director of photography, Łukasz Żal (IDA, 2013) was nominated for an Academy Award® in the Best Cinematographic category earlier this year.

THE HERE AFTER is produced by Mariusz Włodarski for Lava Films and Madeleine Ekman for Zentropa International Sweden, co-produced by Sophie Erbs and Cinema Defacto with support from the Swedish Film Institute, the Polish Film Institute, CNC- Institute Francais, Film I Väst, Opus Film and Eurimages.
