SCREENDAILY: Lars von Trier series ‘The Kingdom Exodus’ acquired by Mubi

Mubi has acquired Lars von Trier’s TV series The Kingdom Exodus for North America, UK, Ireland, Latin America, Turkey, and India

 

The third and final season will world premiere out of competition at this year´s Venice Film Festival (Aug31-Sep 10).

The Kingdom Exodus is influenced by the first two seasons, titled The Kingdom, which were released in 1994 and 1997 respectively and have also been acquired by Mubi.

This five-part series will follow a sleepwalker called Karen who is trying to save the hospital from disaster and ends up reopening the door to the Kingdom once again. 

Von Trier wrote the script with Niels Vørsel, and his production company Zentropa Entertainment, headed by Louise Vesth, is producing. Co-producers are NENT Group, DR, Film I Vast, Zentropa Sweden and Ginger Pictures.

The series is supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond, Creative Europe/MEDIA with tax shelter provided by BNP Paribas Fortis Film Finance.

The cast comprises of Mikael Persbrandt, Lars Mikkelsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, and Tuva Novotny. Alexander Skarsgård and David Dencik will guest star.

After premiering at Venice, The Kingdom Exodus will be available on Mubi in autumn with episodes released weekly. Prior to this, the streaming platform will release newly restored director’s cut editions of the first two seasons, which have previously been unavailable. 

It’s the first time Mubi has acquired a TV series. TrustNordisk’s Susan Wendt negotiated the deal as the head of international sales on the title.
