TrustNordisk comes to Toronto International Film Festival with a
new project by one of the most successful Nordic director, Niels Arden Oplev.
Oplev blew most of the international audience away with
the solid hit THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGOON TATOO (2009). His award-winning WORLDS
APART (2009) and WE
SHALL OVERCOME (2006) were both officially selected for Berlin
International Film Festival with the latter winning a Crystal Bear. Oplev is
also a strong contributor to Scandinavian TV-crime, directing episodes for
the Emmy Award-winning THE EAGLE (2004) amongst others. Now he's back with
drama RACEWALKING (working title).
After working on
features and TV-series in the US (UNFORGETTABLE, 2011; DEAD MAN DOWN, 2013;
UNDER THE DOME, 2013), Niels Arden Oplev returns to Denmark to direct the
adaption of the critically acclaimed debut novel by Morten Kirkskov,
RACEWALKING.
Niels Arden Oplev's upcoming drama stars Anders W
Berthelsen (THE KILLING, 2012), Sidse Babett Knudsen (BORGEN, 2010), Villads
Bøye, Frederik Winther Rasmussen and Kraka Donslund Nielsen.
Script is
written by Bo Hr. Hansen, who's known for his award-winning work on films
such as THE ART OF CRYING (2007).
In a quirky, small town,
situated in the outskirts of everything, 14-year-old Martin is getting ready
for one of the most formal transitions from boy to man; the communion. It´s
1976, music´s in the air and hormones are blossoming. But in the midst of
it all Martin´s mother suddenly passes away and her tragic death trickers a
series of events that not only changes Martin´s life forever, but also
affects everyone else in the local community. An intense, humorous and
evocative story about how life and death demands a transition in us
all.
Producer is Thomas Heinesen from Nordisk Film
Production, who's latest project OUT
OF BOUNDS (Aspöck, 2010) screened in Cannes Film Festival and who
executive produced the international traveller A
HIJACKING (Lindholm, 2012). Duration will be approx. 100 minutes, budget
is approx. EUR 3m and domestic release is set for 2014. The film is supported
by The Danish Film Institute / Kim Leona, TV2 Denmark, Nordisk Film- & TV
