QUEEN OF HEARTS and SONJA - THE WHITE SWAN selected for Sundance Film Festival!

We are very proud to announce two officially selected titles for Sundance Film Festival 2019 (January 24th - February 3rd 2019), QUEEN OF HEARTS and SONJA - THE WHITE SWAN. 

 

The upcoming drama QUEEN OF HEARTS by Danish director May el-Toukhy has been selected for 'World Cinema Dramatic Competition'. In addition, the drama SONJA - THE WHITE SWAN by award-winning director Anne Sewitsky has been selected for the Premieres section at Sundance Film Festival. Managing Director of TrustNordisk, Susan Wendt, comments:

QUEEN OF HEARTS has already come off to a great start at this year´s American Film Market, where a promo was screened and caught great attention among international buyers. With the announcement of the new feature's world premiere at Sundance Film Festival in 2019, the buzz has really started. May el-Toukhy is a powerful upcoming director who now returns with her second feature, the female-driven QUEEN OF HEARTS, which is a provocative and strong work within Danish film. 

 

Synopsis:

Anne runs a successful law firm specialized in cases involving children and youth and is known for her uncompromising approach to her work. She is happily married to Peter, with whom she has twin daughters, but the family's life is stirred when Gustav, Peter's reckless teenage son from a previous marriage, moves in with them. While Peter has a hard time reconnecting with his long-lost son, Anne is used to handling difficult youngsters in her job and finds a way to establish a bond with Gustav. Gradually their relationship evolves, and when Anne seduces Gustav, she jeopardizes both her career and her family. Soon she finds herself drawn towards a choice with unimaginable consequences.


The drama offers a prominent Scandinavian cast, including Silver Bear-winning Danish actress Trine Dyrholm (YOU DISAPPEAR, 2017; THE COMMUNE, 2016; IN A BETTER WORLD, 2010), who is highly acknowledged on an international scale. The cast also includes Swedish upcoming talent Gustav Lindh, who won the Rising Star Award at Stockholm Film Festival in 2017, and internationally acclaimed Swedish actor Magnus Krepper (BEFORE THE FROST, 2018; BECOMING ASTRID, 2018; THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE, 2009).


 

The film is produced by Caroline Blanco & René Ezra for Nordisk Film Production A/S.

The film will premiere in local cinemas on March 28th 2019.

SONJA - THE WHITE SWAN is directed by internationally acclaimed Anne Sewitsky, a coveted directorial profile within Sundance Film Festival who now returns with this new authentic story of a remarkable, iconic person who sacrificed everything to stay in the spotlight. 

 

Sewitsky´s debut feature HAPPY, HAPPY premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2011 and won the Grand Jury Prize within the category World Cinema - Dramatic. The same year, the feature became the official Norwegian entry for the Academy Awards® for Best Foreign Language Film and was sold to more than 50 countries through TrustNordisk. 


Synopsis: 

SONJA - THE WHITE SWAN is the true story of one of the world's greatest athletes and the inventor of modern figure skating, Sonja Henie, who decides to go to Hollywood in 1936 to become a movie star. In Hollywood, Sonja signs a contract with 20th Century Fox, and her first film breaks the box office by selling the most tickets worldwide in 1937. She becomes one of the richest women in her time, always surrounded by fans, lovers and family, never alone. As she gets older, the spotlight is fading, but she refuses to quit. And it all collapses when she falls, drunk on the slushy ice, in Rio de Janeiro. 


SONJA - THE WHITE SWAN stars Ine Marie Wilmann (HOMESICK, 2014) in the lead as Sonja. The feature also stars Irish actress Valene Kane (ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, 2016; THE FALL, 2013-16), Aidan McArdle (THE DUCHESS, 2008), Malcolm Adams (RETURN TO MONTAUK, 2017) and award-winning Norwegian actor Pål Sverre Hagen (OUT STEALING HORSES, 2019; THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER´S WEB, 2018; KON-TIKI, 2012).

The main part of the feature is in English.

The international premiere of SONJA - THE WHITE SWAN will follow the film's local premiere in Norway, which is set for December 25th, 2018.
