We are proud to announce that our upcoming title DARLING, directed by the talented Birgitte Stærmose, has been selected for the BFI London Film Festival. DARLING will be featured in the Thrills section and the film will be celebrating its world premiere at the festival.

DARLING is critically acclaimed Birgitte Stærmose´s second feature film, and the story is centered on the downfall of the successful ballerina Darling and her struggle to accept her new fate. The film is written by the experienced Kim Fupz Aakeson (IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE, 2014; LITTLE SOLDIER, 2008; A SOAP, 2006) and stars Danica Curcic (THE MIST, 2017; NOBEL, 2016; ACROSS THE WATERS, 2016) and Gustaf Skarsgård (WESTWORLD, 2017; VIKINGS, 2013-2017; KONTIKI, 2012) in the leading roles. Featured opposite the staring couple is internationally acclaimed Ulrich Thomsen (COUNTERPART, 2017-2018; BANSHEE, 2013-2016; THE COMMUNE, 2016).

DARLING is the moving love story of a dancer on the rollercoaster ride of her life, a drama about the rise and fall of a modern woman as she summons the courage to face her greatest trial.

Darling is a world-famous Danish ballerina. After a long absence, she and her husband Frans return to the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen to perform the classic ballet “Giselle”. She will dance the title role with Frans as choreographer. During a rehearsal, Darling collapses in pain. Try as she may to deny it, the prognosis is clear: her hip is irreparably damaged. She will never dance again. Her professional life, her world, is in ruins. But Darling refuses to let go. She decides to train her replacement, a young ballerina named Polly, to make Polly the Giselle she can no longer be. But as Polly becomes the center of attention, of Frans´ attention, Darling´s emotional stability begins to unravel.

DARLING is produced by Peter Aalbæk Jensen and Marie Gade Denessen for Zentropa Entertainments3 and co-produced by Madeleine Ekman og Lizette Jonjic for Zentropa Sweden. I co-production with Film I Väst, in cooperation with TV 2 Denmark and with support from the Danish Film Institute, Swedish Film Institute and Creative Europe - Media Programme.
