PRESS RELEASE: ZENTROPA-PRODUCED ANIMATED FEATURE BY ACCLAIMED DIRECTING DUO, MIKAEL WULFF AND ANDERS MORGENTHALER SELECTED FOR BERLINALE GENERATION KPLUS

We are pleased to announce that the crazy, funny, animated family feature film MONTY AND THE STREET PARTY has been selected for the Generation Kplus competition of the 70th Berlin International Film Festival at which it will have its international premiere.

The producer-team behind the film, Jonas Bagger and Julie-Holm states: “We are extremely excited that this high pace comedy will have its international launch at the Berlinale in the Generation section focusing on quality children films. We see this as a fine recognition of the film that has already proven it’s commercial qualities at the local box office and look forward showing the film to the international audience.”

MONTY AND THE STREET PARTY was in top 3 at the box office when it had its local premiere in the highly competitive autumn break 2019. The budget of the film is 3.5 million Euro.

Behind the film is the creative comedy duo WulffMorgenthaler, internationally known as WuMo aka Mikael Wulff and Anders Morgenthaler. 

The WuMo satirical comic strips are published daily in more than 300 newspapers all over the world, some of which include The Washington Post, New York Daily News and Die Welt. 

The one half of the duo, Anders Morgenthaler’s first feature animation, PRINCESS opened the Director’s Fortnight section at Cannes Film Festival in 2006. Mikael Wulff’s track record includes feature film scriptwriting for Sundance selected ALLEGRO directed by Christopher Boe, besides directing and writing 3 seasons of youth TV series PERFECT PLACES for TV 2 Denmark (2016-2019).

The film is based on WuMo’s own children’s book from 2017, the humorous 3D animated feature is a film for the whole family to enjoy together, and has been well received by the Danish critics with reviews such as:

Synopsis 
MONTY AND THE STREET PARTY is the story about Monty, the happiest kid in the world. He lives with his parents in an idyllic residential area populated with crooked types such as the crazy inventor Henrik Skovlykke, the quintuplets Allan, Allan, Allan, Allan and Allan, the cat ladies Tove & Karen, a few nuns who always walk around on stilts and the notorious Weirdo. Monty's happiness ends abruptly when he discovers that his mother has fallen in love with the irresistible crossfit trainer Pierre, and is leaving Monty and his father. Monty decides to do everything he can to bring his parents back together at the forthcoming annual street party…

The film is produced by Julie Lind-Holm Hansen and Jonas Bagger for New Creations and Zentropa. With support from Danish Film Institute, DR, Eurimages, Screen Brussels, Den Vestdanske Filmpulje, Viborg Kommune in co-production with Caviar, Zentropa Belgium, Film i Väst and the Belgium Tax Shelter.
