TrustNordisk is pleased to announce we have acquired the rights to internationally acclaimed Danish director Thomas Vinterberg’s upcoming feature film, which will be included in our line-up as a pre-sales title at Toronto International Film Festival (6th-16th September 2018).
Vinterberg is acknowledged for his heartrending dramas which have taken the world audience by storm. His works include THE CELEBRATION (1998) – which won the Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize and was nominated for the Palme d’Or and a Golden Globe® – SUBMARINO (2010), the Golden Globe®- and Academy Award®-nominee and Cannes Best Actor winner THE HUNT (2012), THE COMMUNE (2016), which was nominated for the Golden Bear at Berlin International Film Festival in 2016 and took home a Silver Bear for Best Actress and his latest film KURSK (2018) which is world premiering at Toronto International Film Festival.
With this upcoming feature, the Danish director once again teams up with fellow Academy Award®-nominee scriptwriter Tobias Lindholm. This artistic collaboration prompts high anticipations within the industry. Managing Director at TrustNordisk, Susan Wendt:
“We are very excited to once again collaborate with Thomas Vinterberg on this new project that we have very high expectations for as it is about a really exciting experiment that most people can relate to! We are sure that he will visualize the captivating script in a beautiful and delightful way.”
It is time to sweep off the dust of everyday life. A Norwegian philosopher argues man is born with a blood alcohol level that is 0.5 ‰ too low. Inspired by that theory Martin and three of his friends and high school teachers launch a drinking experiment. Their mundane existence is an endless row of trivialities so this project might be exactly what they need. It is all about living life to the fullest! If Churchill won WW2 in a heavy daze of alcohol, imagine how the powerful drops can affect the daily humdrum?
The four teachers – and a handful of students – decide to uphold a constant level of intoxication. Under the influence our four friends become braver, more musical, teaching grows interesting and results soar.
The group feels alive again! As the units are knocked back the experiment both progresses and derails. It becomes clear that while alcohol historically has fuelled great results, all actions have consequences.
The upcoming film marks Vinterberg’s return to Danish cinema, embracing a liberating and heartrending story of friendship and the pursuit of happiness life in all its glory and mediocrity.
Similar to Vinterberg’s previous films, this drama will star an exclusive Danish A-list cast which is yet to be announced. The film is in pre-production and will be produced by Sisse Graum, Zentropa Entertainments3 ApS.
Principal photography is expected to commence in summer 2019 with a budget of EUR 3.8 m.
Local release to be announced.
