We are thrilled to announce that TrustNordisk has secured the international sales rights for the critically acclaimed director Bille August´s upcoming TV series A FORTUNATE MAN based on the novel LYKKE PER (LUCKY PER) by Nobel Prize winning author Henrik Pontoppidan.

Bille August is most famous for the Academy Award winning PELLE THE CONQUERER (1987) and THE HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS (1993), which was also based on the work of an internationally acclaimed author, Isabel Allende, and starring names such as Meryl Streep, Glenn Close and Jeremy Irons. Throughout his career August has held a high artistic level winning two Palme d´Or's and a Golden Globe besides his Academy Award. August has continued to direct high profile national as well as international projects, most recently with GOODBYE BAFANA (2007), MARIE KRØYER (2012), SILENT HEART (2014) and 55 STEPS (2017).

The new TV series will both be available as a 4 part miniseries (4 x approx. 55 min.) which will be screened at the Danish broadcasting channel TV 2 in 2019, and as a feature length film (approx. 150 min).

A FORTUNATE MAN stars up-and-coming talent Esben Smed (FOLLOW THE MONEY, 2016; AMINAS LETTERS, 2017) in the leading role.

On his quest for happiness, Per decides to leave Jutland and an upbringing in a strict religious home. He runs from his family and his patriarch father, and sets sail towards Copenhagen to become an engineer. Parallel to his studies, he works on a visionary energy project based on wind and wave energy, a project so much ahead of its time, that his professors consider him crazy and far too self-confident. However, Per´s project becomes a succes, and he falls in love and marries the beautiful Jakobe who is a part of a wealthy Jewish family. One would imagine that Per´s happiness now is made. But Per´s childhood keeps haunting him and his dogmatic family cannot accept his new life. Despite his luck and success, Per is unable to fully cut the strings to his strict religious background, and he now fears that he will repeat his father´s patriarchist behavior.

The project is currently in shooting and will be ready for delivery in late 2018.

A FORTUNATE MAN is produced by Thomas Heinesen and Karin Trolle for Nordisk Film Production with executive producer Christian Rank and head of drama Katrine Vogelsang from TV2/Denmark in co-production with Satel Film GmbH, Fernsehfonds Austria, Film Fyn and Vestdanske Filmpulje with support from The Danish Film Institute's Puplic Service Fund.
