Following the film’s acclaimed world premiere at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, TrustNordisk has secured multiple international sales for Petra Volpe's gripping drama LATE SHIFT, starring Leonie Benesch. The film has been sold to major territories including the UK, Portugal, Former Yugoslavia, Japan, Taiwan, and Indonesia. At the same time, its impressive box office performance in local markets has further cemented its broad audience appeal.

28 March 2025, Copenhagen - We are pleased to announce the expansion of international sales for LATE SHIFT, the critically acclaimed new drama from Petra Volpe. Following its successful world premiere in the Special Gala section of the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, the film has been acquired in multiple territories, including the UK (Vertigo Releasing), Portugal (Alambique), Former Yugoslavia (Demiurg Cultural), as well as Japan (New Select), Taiwan (Light Year Images) and Indonesia (Falcon).

A theatrical sensation in local markets
Beyond its growing international distribution, LATE SHIFT has become a box office sensation in German-speaking territories. Since its local release on February 27 2025, the film has performed exceptionally well in cinemas across Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, surpassing expectations and achieving a box office gross of USD 5 million. For four consecutive weeks, the film has held the #1 position at the Swiss box office, surpassing 114,000 admissions. In Germany, the film has already crossed 237,000 admissions, while in Austria, more than 25,000 moviegoers have experienced the film in theatres.

LATE SHIFT is a gripping feature drama from Swiss-Italian director and screenwriter Petra Volpe, known for her Tribeca Audience Award-winning feature THE DIVINE ORDER (2017), which sold to major territories world-wide and was selected as the Swiss entry for the 'Best Foreign Language Film' at the 90th Academy Awards®.
Volpe’s new film delves into timely healthcare challenges, delivering a humanistic narrative that highlights the significance of compassionate care. The film stars Leonie Benesch, the EFP 2023 Shooting Star winner, who is recognized for her role in the Academy Award®-nominated drama THE TEACHERS' LOUNGE (2023) and SEPTEMBER 5 (2024).

Synopsis:
FLORIA, a dedicated nurse, navigates the relentless pace on a surgical ward with unwavering dedication, infusing humanity and warmth into her patient care even though the shift is understaffed. As the day intensifies, LATE SHIFT transforms into a gripping race against time, culminating in a riveting climax.
LATE SHIFT is directed and written by Petra Volpe. The film is produced by Reto Schaerli and Lukas Hobi from Zodiac Pictures, in co-production with MMC Zodiac, Swiss Radio and Television and SRG SSR.
