TrustNordisk is very proud to announce that we have boarded the latest project from Nordisk Film, THE MURDER OF BENJAMIN. The film is a moving and timely drama based on the real-life murder of Benjamin Hermansen, a 15-year-old boy from Norway whose death in 2001 shocked a nation and sent reverberations around the world.

The film is directed by Ingvild Søderlind, who also co-wrote the script with Helena Johanne Nielsen, and is produced by Thomas Robsahm (THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD; LOVEABLE). It stars new Norwegian talents Elikem Leon Akpan as Benjamin Hermansen and Magnús Blöndal Jóhannsson as Joe Erling, alongside Laila Goody (THE WAVE) as Benjamin’s mother.

Benjamin Hermansen a young boy of mixed Norwegian and Malian heritage, was brutally murdered by neo-Nazis in a racially motivated assault outside Oslo in January 2001. His death sparked a nationwide outcry against racism and xenophobia, leading to some of the largest anti-racism demonstrations in Norwegian history. Nearly 40,000 people marched in Oslo alone to honor Benjamin's memory and to stand against hatred. His story remains a stark reminder of the destructive power of prejudice and the importance of standing together in solidarity.

TrustNordisk sales director Nicolai Korsgaard on boarding the film:

“Benjamin’s story is profoundly moving, particularly when we consider that it occurred 24 years ago - and that similar tragedies continue to happen today. That makes it even more heartbreaking.
His story deserves to be told - not only for Benjamin and his family, but also in honor of the many others whose lives were tragically lost due to hatred and indifference. I believe this film will travel widely and resonate with audiences because stories like this need to be told.”

Synopsis
On a cold night in Holmlia, 15-year-old Benjamin is murdered by 19-year-old Joe Erling Jahr in a racially motivated assault. A year later, Benjamin’s mother, Marit, faces her son’s killer in court.
