TRUSTNORDISK ACQUIRES ACTION DRAMA 'CONVOY (WORKING TITLE)' INSPIRED BY ONE OF THE GREATEST WW2 NAVAL DRAMAS

TrustNordisk has boarded international sales rights of the upcoming action drama CONVOY (WORKING TITLE), that is inspired by real historical events  -  one of the greatest naval dramas unfolded at sea during WW2.

Copenhagen, 2 May 2023 – We are proud to present that TrustNordisk will be handling world sales of the upcoming historical action drama CONVOY (WORKING TITLE) produced by the successful production house behind Norwegian disaster trilogy THE NORTH SEA (2021), THE QUAKE (2017), THE WAVE (2015) and as with these titles, CONVOY (WORKING TITLE) is inspired by real events.

CONVOY (WORKING TITLE) is produced by Scandi production powerhouse FanteFilm with cast yet to be revealed. The film is directed by talented director Henrik M. Dahlsbakken, known for the biography drama MUNCH (2023), that was nominated for Best Nordic Film at Goteborg Film Festival 2023. Dahlsbakken also directed the horror POSSESSION (2022) and his first feature film RETURNING HOME premiered at Rome Film Festival 2015 and was shortlisted as the Norwegian Oscar candidate for Best Foreign Language Film.
The 6M EUR project marks a return to the action genre for FanteFilm, producers of hits like the aforementioned THE NORTH SEA (2021), THE QUAKE (2017) and THE WAVE (2015), this time inspired by one of the greatest naval disasters of WW2. CONVOY (WORKING TITLE) will be a large-scale action drama similar to those we are accustomed to from Hollywood, but with a distinctive Scandinavian touch that sets it apart from its pumped-up, American relatives with an emotionally captivating drama set in the tick of the war and under brutal Arctic conditions.

Managing Director of TrustNordisk, Susan Wendt, comments on the acquisition:
'We are thrilled to be working with Henrik and with Fantefilm on yet another exciting genre project since the disaster successes THE NORTH SEA, THE WAVE and the QUAKE. We expect nothing less of CONVOY (WORKING TITLE) with its action packed and gripping story, which we believe has strong appeal both within festivals and distribution.'

Synopsis:

In 1942, Hitler's war machine seems unstoppable. The Germans gain ground in the Soviet Union and the situation looks dire. To prevent further losses civilian merchant ships are gathered from across the world carrying war supplies from Iceland to Murmansk and Archangel under protection of Allied naval vessels to make the treacherous journey.

35 ships set off on what is supposed to be the safest convoy. However due to catastrophic mistakes by British intelligence the journey turns deadly for the men and ships. Caught at sea without defense or war experience, civilian sailors are now forced to fight for their lives against German air and naval forces as well as brutal Arctic temperatures. Only 12 ships made it to destination.

CONVOY (WORKING TITLE) tells the story of one of the biggest dramas that unfolded at sea during World War 2.

CONVOY (WORKING TITLE) is directed by Henrik M. Dahlsbakken and written by Christian Sibenherz, Harald Rosenløw Eeg & Lars Gudmestad. The film is produced by Martin Sundland, Catrin Gundersen & Thea Benedikte Karlsen for Fantefilm Fiksjon, with support from the Norwegian Film Institute, in collaboration with Film In Väst and FilmInvest. Domestic distribution by Nordisk Film. International sales handled by TrustNordisk.

CONVOY (WORKING TITLE) is currently shooting and has a budget of 6M EUR. Early footage to be presented in the TrustNordisk promoreel in Cannes.
