PRESS RELEASE: Three TrustNordisk titles selected for Göteborg Film Festival 2025

Copenhagen, 7 January 2025 – Göteborg Film Festival has unveiled its much-anticipated programme, and TrustNordisk is proud to announce that three of its titles have been selected for this year’s festivaledition. Eirik Svensson's SAFE HOUSE, Mathias Broe’s SAUNA, and Sylvia Le Fanu's MY ETERNAL SUMMER will all compete in the 'Nordic Competition'.

SAFE HOUSE

SAFE HOUSE was announced as the festival’s opening film, marking its World premiere at Göteborg Film Festival 2025 - a thrilling launch for what promises to be a gripping cinematic experience, competing in Nordic Competition.

Synopsis

The civil war rages in the Central African Republic, Linn (35) leads a team of aid workers who are working tirelessly to save lives in a field hospital outside a massive refugee camp. When a Muslim man, persecuted and in mortal danger, seeks refuge, Linn faces a critical decision. A growing mob and Christian militia demand his handover. As the head of security, Linn must act quickly, brutally balancing the safety of her team with the value of a single life.

SAFE HOUSE is based on the true events that unfolded during 15 tense hours at a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Bangui on Christmas Eve, 2013.

SAFE HOUSE is directed by Eirik Svensson and written by Harald Rosenløw Eeg & Lars Gudmestad. The film is produced by Hugo Hagemann Føsker & Catrin Gundersen for Fantefilm Fiksjon with support from the Norwegian Film Institute, in co-production with Nordisk Film, Film i Väst, Cinenic Film & ReelMedia and in association with Nordisk Film Distribution. SAUNA

Following its recent selection for the prestigious World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, SAUNA has now been selected to compete at Göteborg Film Festival in the Nordic Competition.

Synopsis

SAUNA follows Johan, a young gay man, through his experiences with love and sex. He has just started working as a receptionist at Adonis, Copenhagen's only gay sauna, where he works and spends much of his time. For Johan, the city is like a boundless paradise of opportunities with bars, parties, and one-night stands, but it is only when he meets transgender William that he experiences love up close. The love between the two is put to a tough test as their relationship develops within a  society governed by rigid ideas about gender, love, and identity.

SAUNA is directed by Mathias Broe and written by William Lippert in collaboration with Mathias Broe. The film is based on the book SAUNA written by Mads Ananda Lodahl and is produced by Mads-August Hertz for Nordisk Film Production with support from the New Danish Screen at the Danish Film Institute, DR & Nordisk Film Distribution. MY ETERNAL SUMMER

MY ETERNAL SUMMER has enjoyed an impressive festival run throughout 2024, earning selections at both the San Sebastian Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival. The film also took home the NDR Film Prize and the Baltic Prize at Lübeck’s Nordic Film Days.

Now, it continues its success into 2025 with a selection for the Göteborg Film Festival.

Synopsis

Fifteen-year-old Fanny and her parents retreat to their summer house, embracing familiar routines: reading, swimming, and walking. Beneath the quiet simplicity, an unspoken grief lingers—they know it will be her mother’s last summer. As they try to seize the days they have left together, the family navigates the delicate balance between cherishing the present and facing what’s to come.
