We are proud to announce that our latest Department Q thriller THE MARCO EFFECT by director Martin Zandvliet has been officially selected for Fantastic Fest 2021 (23-30 September 2021).
Already selected for Shanghai International Film Festival earlier this year, the recently announced selection for Fantastic Fest truly underlines the high interest in the film, which has an innovative take and brings a new vibe to the Department Q franchise.
THE MARCO EFFECT is directed by award-winning Martin Zandvliet, who also directed the Oscar-nominated feature LAND OF MINE (2015) and based on the book THE MARCO EFFECT by best-selling author Jussi Adler-Olsen. The feature is written by Anders August, co-written by Thomas Porsager and Martin Zandvliet.
The feature stars a brand-new cast, including Ulrich Thomsen (THE COMMUNE, 2016; BROTHERS, 2004; THE INHERITANCE, 2003; THE CELEBRATION, 1998) as Carl Mørck, Zaki Youssef (SONS OF DENMARK, 2019) as his partner Assad, and Sofie Torp (DANIEL, 2019) as their secretary Rose.
Managing Director of TrustNordisk, Susan Wendt, comments on the recent selection:
‘We are excited to have the feature at Fantastic Fest, one of the most prestigious genre film festivals in the US, and we look forward to presenting the film to the American audience.’
Producer of the film, Mikael Rieks, adds:
‘I am honored to have the film selected for the Fantastic Fest. It’s such a hard game to make a genre pix, it´s so damn difficult. A lot of hard work was put into the The Marco Effect and its new “film Noir” vibe. We are very proud that a highly respected genre film festival like Fantastic Fest has chosen to include it in their official selection, thank you, it´s such a magnifique festival.’
The thriller has sold to a wide range of territories already, including France (Wild Bunch Distribution), Germany and Austria (Koch Films), Switzerland (Impuls Pictures), Spain (Vertigo Films), Italy (Movies Inspired), Greece & Cyprus (Rosebud.21), Hungary (Vertigo Media), Slovakia and Czech Republic (Aero Films), Former Yugoslavia (Discovery Film & Video), Russia (Capella Film), South Korea (Contents Panda), Taiwan (Deepjoy Picture Corporation) and Japan (Culture Entertainment).
The film is produced by Mikael Rieks for Nordisk Film Production A/S in co-production with Peter Nadermann for Nadcon Film GmbH and ZDF with support from the Danish Film Institute, YouSee, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and TV2 Denmark.
Nordic distribution through Nordisk Film. International sales handled by TrustNordisk.
