PRESS RELEASE: RECORD-BREAKING OPENING FOR A MAN CALLED OVE

05-01-2016

A MAN CALLED OVE has celebrated a record-breaking local release on December 25th 2015, exceeding the former best opening Swedish film, THE 100 YEAR-OLD MAN - who climbed out the window and disappeared (2013) and making it the best opening in recent years. The current number of admissions is 654.000.

Furthermore the film has recently been nominated for 6 Guldbagge awards (the official Swedish film industry awards) for Best Feature Film and Best Male Lead amongst others.

Annica Bellander, producer of the film along with Nicklas Wikström, states: When initiating the project, I had high expectations to the outcome partly because of Hannes Holms directing and scriptwriting and of course due to the strong cast with Rolf Lassgård in the lead. That being said, the reception of A MAN CALLED OVE has far surpassed all our dreams and hopes.

A MAN CALLED OVE has currently been sold to Germany, Austria (Concorde), The Netherlands, Luxemborg, Belgium (September Film Rights), Switzerland (Praesens-Film AG), Hungary (Vertigo Media), Estonia (Estin Film), Korea (Sidus FNH Corporation).

Based on the bestselling book by Fredrik Backman, which has been published in more than 30 countries worldwide, A MAN CALLED OVE tells a heartfelt, poetic and humorous story about a grumpy old man who has given up on everyone including himself. But his life and negative approach to the world is put to the test when a new family moves in next door.

A MAN CALLED OVE is produced by Annica Bellander and Nicklas Wikström for Tre Vänner in co-operation with Film i Väst, SVT, Nordisk Film, Nordsvensk Filmunderhållning Fantefilm with support from The Swedish Film Institute, Norwegian Film institute and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
