Noomi Rapace, Peter Haber and Ina-Miriam Rosenbaum have been added to the cast of director Isabella Eklöf’s upcoming Zentropa-produced Dogma25-film MR. NAWASHI while the first two stills are being released. Rapace, Haber and Rosenbaum will join previously announced leads Esben Smed (THE LAST RESORT; DANIEL), playing MR. NAWASHI and newcomer Tanya Holm Andersen as Katarina.
Noomi Rapace will take on the role as Katarina’s sister and will appear opposite Peter Haber, who plays the father of the two sisters. Rapace and Haber previously shared the screen in THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.
Rapace rose to international fame with her acclaimed portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and has since starred in a hoist of major international productions including LAMB and PROMETHEUS.
In addition to playing Martin Vanger in THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, Haber is perhaps best known for his iconic portrayal of detective Martin Beck in the long-running Swedish TV series BECK.
Critically acclaimed Danish actress Ina-Miriam Rosenbaum known internationally for her roles in THE BRIDGE and YOU DISAPPEAR, also joins the cast as the sisters’ mother.
Writer and director Isabella Eklöf describes the film as a deep dive into the authentic world of sexual dominance and submission, told from lived experience. A love declaration to an exceptional Dom, and a lament for two people who understood each other perfectly, and still can’t make it work.
Synopsis:
MR. NAWASHI is a love story following Katarina, an ambitious and talented singer with an appetite for life but little self-discipline. When she meets the mysterious Mr. Nawashi online, her eyes are opened to a new world – a BDSM relationship in which unwavering submission and devotion are met with attention, care, strict coaching, and a tantalising play with physical pain. Katarina blossoms stimulated both physically and mentally. But what begins as flirtation and attraction soon tips into obsession and dependence.
Eklöf is known for her uncompromising approach to storytelling with a strong ability to portray complex characters with psychological depth. Her debut feature HOLIDAY premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2018 in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition. This was followed by the drama KALAK, based on the bestselling book by Kim Leine. For KALAK, Eklöf took home two awards at the San Sebastian Film Festival including the Special Jury Prize in 2023. Eklöf has also directed several episodes of the HBO series INDUSTRY, as well as episodes of SERVANT and all episodes of THE DEATH OF BUNNY MUNRO, and she was also co-writer on Ali Abbasi’s internationally acclaimed feature film BORDER.
MR. NAWASHI will be her third feature film with expected release sometime in 2027.
Dogma25, announced during Cannes Film Festival 2025, is an initiative of director May el-Toukhy who has brought together the directors Milad Alami, Annika Berg, Isabella Eklöf and Jesper Just. The five filmmakers unite in an artistic collective based on a shared manifesto and a new vow of chastity comprising ten new dogmas to protect the artistic integrity of feature film and create space for uncompromising cinematic storytelling. All five feature films will be produced by Zentropa.
This year during Cannes Germany also presented their collective of five directors who have joined Dogma25.
The Danish Dogma25 projects are financed in a collaboration between Zentropa, DR, and Nordisk Film Distribution, with the addition of Netflix in the Nordics, constituting the core financing necessary to realise all five projects.
Additionally, Isabella Eklöf’s MR. NAWASHI is produced with support from the Danish Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute and Eastern Denmark Film Fund.
The Dogma25 films are distributed by Nordisk Film Distribution and subsequently on Netflix in the Nordics and DR. TrustNordisk handles international sales.
MR. NAWASHI is expected to have its theatrical release in 2027.
