The BFI London Film Festival 2024 has announced its official selection, featuring MY ETERNAL SUMMER, a debut feature film directed by Sylvia Le Fanu. The festival is set to take place from 9-29 October, 2024.
Copenhagen, 4 September 2024 – We are delighted to share that MY ETERNAL SUMMER has been officially selected for the upcoming BFI London Film Festival, where it will premiere in the fine First Feature Competition for the Sutherland Award. On top of this selection, the film was recently selected for world premiere in the New Directors competition at the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
MY ETERNAL SUMMER follows a 15-year-old at the family summer house with her parents, for what will be the mother’s final time. The film marks the directorial debut of Sylvia Le Fanu, who co-wrote the screenplay with Mads Lind Knudsen. The film is produced by Jeppe Wowk for Adomeit Film with support from New Danish Screen, the Danish Film Institute's talent development program.
Sylvia Le Fanu is a graduate of the Norwegian Film School (2020) and holds a BA in Film and Media Studies from the University of Copenhagen. She also completed the independent film program 18 FRAMES in Odense, Denmark. Le Fanu’s short films (ABU ADNAN, 2017; AMOURTEUR, 2020) have been featured at festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand, Indy Shorts, and Odense Film Festival.
The film stars Kaya Toft Loholt (A PERFECTLY NORMAL FAMILY, 2020) as Fanny and Maria Rossing (DEPARTMENT Q: A CONSPIRACY OF FAITH, 2016) and Anders Mossling (THE KINGDOM, 1994) portraying her parents.
Synopsis:
Fifteen-year-old Fanny and her parents retreat to their summer house, embracing familiar routines: reading, swimming, and walking. Beneath the quiet simplicity, an unspoken grief lingers—they know it will be her mother’s last summer. As they try to seize the days they have left together, the family navigates the delicate balance between cherishing the present and facing what’s to come.
MY ETERNAL SUMMER is directed by Sylvia Le Fanu and written by Mads Lind Knudsen and Sylvia Le Fanu, produced by Jeppe Wowk for Adomeit Film ApS with support from the Danish Film Institute, co-financed by FilmFyn, DR, Den Vestdanske Filmpulje, Create Europe Programme – MEDIA. MY ETERNAL SUMMER is scheduled for local release on 30 January, 2025.
