We are thrilled to announce that TrustNordisk has secured the international sales rights for renowned director Michael Noer´s next feature film. The film is still UNTITLED, but will initiate shooting in mid-October.

Noer is presently at the Toronto International Film Festival with his latest film, a remake of the film classic PAPILLON, starring Rami Malek (MR. ROBOT, 2015-) and Charlie Hunnam (KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD, 2017) in the leading roles. The film will celebrate its world premiere at the festival tonight, Thursday September 7th.

Michael Noer's upcoming film takes place in Denmark in the 1850s and is based on research and Michael Noer´s signature hyper realistic style. The story of the film is centered around a father (JENS) and how far he is willing go to ensure his bloodline in a dog-eat-dog world. The film will star the internationally acclaimed Jesper Christensen, known for his role as Mr. White in the three latest James Bond movies, as well as roles in Lars Von Trier´s MELANCHOLIA (2011) and NYMPHOMNAIC (2013), and the male lead in last year´s Academy Award® nominated THE KING´S CHOICE (2016), just to mention a few.

Michael Noer says “The film is Jesper Fink´s (screenwriter) and my attempt to reinvent the period drama by treating it like a hard-boiled genre movie - a dark moral western - about survival and anguish - directed with the same documentary nerve as my other feature films. I´m the father of two young children, so I know that the limit for how far parents will go for their children is infinite. At the same time, I also feel how quickly you get ambitions on behalf of your children - but are they in the children´s best interest or in fact my own dreams? In this way, I reflect on Jens' motives and dreams, but I also think that the film relates to its contemporary time, by telling about our past.”

As winter approaches in rural 1850s Denmark, an old farmer (JENS) and his family face starvation. The only option is to find a suitable husband for his daughter, but to make this happen, the farmer must exceed his own moral and will end up with blood on his hands in his attempt to secure his daughter a better life.

Director of photography will be the talented Sturla Brandth Grøvlen, known for HEARTSTONE (2016), RAMS (2015) and VICTORIA (2015), among others.

Script by Michael Noer and Jesper Fink.

The film is produced by René Ezra, Matilda Appelin & Tomas Radoor for Nordisk Film Production A/S.

The films local release is set for the beginning of 2019.

Further information on the film will be published on our website shortly.
