TrustNordisk is very proud to announce that Tribeca Film Festival has selected MAGNUS to screen in the Spotlight section.

Frederic Boyer, Artistic Director at Tribeca Film Festival says: “MAGNUS is not only an amazing portrait of a chess prodigy, but is also a unique coming of age story, shot over a decade, about the development of a champion who has dedicated his life to the game. We are thrilled to screen it at the Tribeca Film Festival this year.”

Rikke Ennis, CEO of TrustNordisk says: “We are overjoyed that Tribeca has selected the film and can´t wait to see reactions from the international audience.”

MAGNUS is directed by Benjamin Ree and features several other high profile chess players like Garry Kasparov and Viswanathan Anand among others.

It tells the story of Magnus Carlsen, who in 2004, when he was 13 years-old he made a decision: he would become the World Chess Champion. The coming-of-age story unfolds as we follow the prodigy battling his way through the ranks of chess, with personal sacrifices, special friendships and a caring family. MAGNUS is a character driven drama that is bound to engage the non-chess players, as well as the over 600 million people who play chess all over the world.

After a closed market screening during this years EFM the film was sold to several territories, Germany and Austria (NFP), Hong Kong (EDKO films Ltd.), former Yugoslavia (Discovery Film) and Benelux (September Film Rights), TV-rights to Israel (Yes DBS Satellite Service), with more territories currently in negotiation.

The now 25-year-old Magnus Carlsen will defend his title and compete for a prize of over $1 million at the World Chess Championship 2016, which is to be held in New York City in November.

“I and all New Yorkers welcome the World Chess Championship back to New York City. What better place to be than the city where parks are often populated by chess enthusiasts” said New York Mayor Bill de Blasio when the location was announced last week.

The film is produced by Sigurd Mikal Karoliussen for Moskus Film in co-production with VGTV, Nordisk Film Production and Main Island Production with support from The Norwegian Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and Fritt Ord.
