We are proud to announce that The Danish Academy Award Committee has submitted May el-Toukhy’s QUEEN OF HEARTS as the Danish entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the Academy Awards®.
QUEEN OF HEARTS has been selected as the Danish entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the Academy Awards®. Nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards will be announced on January 13th, and the ceremony will take place on February 9th at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
The film has had great success after its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it participated in the 'World Cinema Dramatic Competition' and was awarded with the prestigious 'Audience Award'. The film was furthermore awarded no less than three times at Göteborg Film Festivals award ceremony - including Goteborg’s Dragon Award, which is the world’s most lucrative film award with a cash prize of $110,000.
QUEEN OF HEARTS offers a prominent Scandinavian cast, including Silver Bear-winning Danish actress Trine Dyrholm (THE COMMUNE, 2016; IN A BETTER WORLD, 2010; THE CELEBRATION, 1998), Swedish upcoming talent Gustav Lindh, winner of the Rising Star Award at Stockholm Film Festival in 2017, and internationally acclaimed Swedish actor Magnus Krepper (BEFORE THE FROST, 2018; BECOMING ASTRID, 2018; THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE, 2009).
Synopsis:
A woman jeopardizes both her career and her family when she seduces her teenage stepson and is forced to make an irreversible decision with fatal consequences.
The film is produced by Caroline Blanco & René Ezra for Nordisk Film Production A/S. With support from the Danish Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute and Nordic Film & TV Fund in collaboration with DR and SVT.
