We are proud and delighted to announce that the captivating drama BEFORE THE FROST by internationally acclaimed Danish director Michael Noer has been officially selected for Rome Film Fest 2018.

Earlier this year, the drama was selected for Toronto International Film Festival within the Contemporary World Cinema section. Managing Director of TrustNordisk, Susan Wendt, comments: ‘We are very excited, yet not surprised, that this film has been selected for Rome Film Fest. It clearly underlines the high quality of the film and the international appreciation of Michael Noer´s distinct visual style and storytelling carried out in this new feature.´

BEFORE THE FROST is a captivating dark period tale by award-winning director Michael Noer, who made his return to Danish film with this new drama after his screen adaption PAPILLON (2017) based on author Henri Charrière´s biographical bestseller of the same name.

As winter approaches in rural 1850s Denmark, an old farmer (Jens) and his family face starvation. The harsh circumstances and with the prospect of yet another tough winter, Jens must make an unbearable choice. If the family is to survive he must settle an agreement with the wealthy farmer at the nearby farm and forsake his own moral and the most precious he owns, in an effort to secure them all a better life.

The feature stars internationally acclaimed actor Jesper Christensen who plays the leading character as the farmer Jens, who compromises on his values to secure the safety of his family. Jesper Christensen is also known as Mr. White from the James Bond franchise, as well as Lars von Trier´s MELANCHOLIA (2011), NYMPHOMANIAC (2013) and Academy Award-nominated THE KING´S CHOICE (2016).

According to international media, BEFORE THE FROST contributes with an intense and authentic look into former rural life, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter in their film review:

A tour-de-force performance from veteran Danish actor Jesper Christensen fully anchors Before the Frost.

Michael Noer has collaborated with different internationally acclaimed actors and screenwriters and has, besides PAPILLON, directed the drama NORTHWEST (2013) as well as the award-winning drama R (2009).

In addition to Rome Film Fest, the feature has been selected for CPH PIX in Copenhagen, as well as for International Competition at the 54th Chicago International Film Festival and Competition at the 31st Tokyo International Film Festival.

The film is produced by René Ezra, Matilda Appelin & Tomas Radoor for Nordisk Film Production A/S and financed by DR, the Danish Film Institute and Nordisk Film Production.
