We are extremely proud to announce that the Danish Oscar Committee has selected the award-winning and highly praised drama ANOTHER ROUND by Thomas Vinterberg, produced by Zentropa, as the official Danish entry for the 93rd Academy Awards 2021.
With this announcement, TrustNordisk now has a total of three features in the race for an Oscar 2021 nomination, ANOTHER ROUND by Thomas Vinterberg, Norwegian HOPE by Maria Sødahl and Swedish drama CHARTER by Amanda Kernell.
The journey of ANOTHER ROUND has been nothing less than spectacular with high appraisals from festivals, media, buyers and the world audience.
A festival darling
The drama was honoured with the official selection label at Cannes Film Festival 2020 as well as Toronto International Film Festival 2020, where it had its international premiere. In addition, the drama won the award ‘Prix des Cinémas Art et Essai in France’, the LFF Virtual Audience Award for ‘Best Film’ at the BFI London Film Festival 2020 and the Silver Shell for ‘Best Actor’ at the 68th San Sebastian Film Festival. Last week, the drama was nominated for the European Film Awards 2020 within four categories: European Film, European Director, European Scriptwriter and European Actor.
Now selected as Denmark’s official entry at the 93rd Academy Awards, the journey crosses a new exciting path.
Thomas Vinterberg quotes:
'I am truly honoured that the committee has selected ANOTHER ROUND as the official Danish candidate for the Oscar race. The way the film has been received locally and abroad gives me a feeling of great gratitude.'
The final nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards will be announced on 13 March 2021, and the ceremony will take place on 25 April 2021 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
A fantastic reception from the audience
The drama has not least had a fantastic reception from the audience. Since the film’s local release on 24 September 2020, the film has had an overwhelming number of admissions. Almost 750,000 admissions have been sold locally despite the current covid-19 restrictions, and the ticket sales are still going. This makes the film Vinterberg’s greatest cinema success to date.
