TrustNordisk and Zentropa reveal the official first still from Anders Thomas Jensen’s upcoming dark comedy THE LAST VIKING, and announce new international sales.
Starring Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas in the lead, the film has recently been picked up for distribution in Spain, Greece, and Bulgaria, underscoring continued global interest in the title.
13 May, Copenhagen – TrustNordisk and Zentropa have unveiled the first official still from THE LAST VIKING, the upcoming dark comedy from critically acclaimed director Anders Thomas Jensen. The film features a stellar Scandinavian cast led by international star Mads Mikkelsen (ANOTHER ROUND, 2020; FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE, 2022) and widely recognized actor Nikolaj Lie Kaas (FAMILIES LIKE OURS, 2024; RIDERS OF JUSTICE, 2020). The first still is revealed together with new international sales, with rights sold to Spain (Avalon), Greece (Videorama), and Bulgaria (Beta Film).
THE LAST VIKING has received immense international interest from the industry already, having previously sold to Germany, Austria and Switzerland (Neue Visionen Filmverleigh Gmbh), Benelux (September Film), the Baltics (Estinfilm), Hungary (Vertigo Media), Poland (Best Film), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Film Europe), Italy (Plaion), Singapore (September Film Rights) and Japan (Starcat Cable Network Co.).

THE LAST VIKING marks Anders Thomas Jensen’s sixth feature as a director. His latest film was the great international success RIDERS OF JUSTICE (2020), also starring Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas in the lead, which sold to most countries world-wide and became a local box office hit.
His upcoming dark comedy film, THE LAST VIKING, is packed with humour, thought-provoking and touching moments, as well as outstanding performances. Jensen reunites with Hollywood silver screen darling Mads Mikkelsen (ANOTHER ROUND, 2020; FANTASTIC BEASTS, 2022) and talented Nikolaj Lie Kaas (RIDERS OF JUSTICE, 2020), who play the leading roles as Anker and Manfred. Both actors have appeared in all of Anders Thomas Jensen’s films.
BAFTA Award-winning Danish actress Sofie Gråbøl (THE UNDOING, 2020; THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT, 2018; THE KILLING, 2007-12) has also reunited with Anders Thomas Jensen for THE LAST VIKING, which will be the first time since FLICKERING LIGHTS (2000).
The film also features prominent roles and familiar faces from Jensen’s past projects and other big Danish features, including Lars Brygmann (RIDERS OF JUSTICE, 2020), Bodil Jørgensen (THE KINGDOM EXODUS, 2022), Søren Malling (THE PROMISED LAND, 2023), Nicolas Bro (RIDERS OF JUSTICE, 2020), and Lars Ranthe (ANOTHER ROUND, 2020). Additionally, it introduces some new faces to this cinematic universe, such as Swedish actor Kardo Razzazi, known for his leading role in Netflix’s global hit series THE ÅRE MURDERS (2025).
Synopsis
Anker is released from prison following a fifteen-years sentence for robbery. The money from the heist was buried by Anker’s brother, Manfred. Only he knows where it is. Unfortunately, Manfred has since developed a mental disorder, causing him to forget all. Together, the brothers embark on an unexpected journey to locate the money and discover who they really are.
