TrustNordisk is handling world sales on the star-packed Danish series, toplining Esben Smed, Sidse Babette Knudsen and Dar Salim.
The entertainment industry satire about celebrity agents, is written and directed by star actor Nikolaj Lie Kaas (Riders of Justice, Department Q films) who dived into his own experience for inspiration.
The central character Joe (35), played by Esben Smet (A Fortunate Man, Follow the Money) is a Danish talent agent with global ambitions. However, things don’t always go according to plan. While trying to prevent his personal problems from piling up, he does everything possible to help his clients. Meanwhile, his 10-year-old daughter is longing for his attention.
“I’ve always thought that there is great potential for original stories in my industry, and have always been fascinated by people and characters who cannot even see the blatantly wrong choices they make,” said Lie Kaas in a statement. “It's a comedy on top of a drama, for I have been consciously careful not to surrender to pure drama, which is the right way to describe a human being who is falling to pieces. But my mantra is that you should be able to laugh out loud,” added the writer/director.
TrustNordisk managing director Susan Wendt, said she is thrilled to collaborate again with Zentropa and to represent “this new project by Nikolaj Lie Kaas, who is known for mastering comedy and elevating the genre to new heights.”
Besides Smed, the A-list cast includes Sidse Babette Knudsen (Borgen, Wildland), Dar Salim (Delivery Us, Warrior), Ulrich Thomsen (The Marco Effect, The Commune), Lars Ranthe (Another Round) set to play caricatures of themselves.
The series executive produced by TV2’s Pernille Bech Christensen, is due to premiere on TV2 and Tv2 Play in 2023.
Zentropa and TV2 Denmark are currently collaborating on Thomas Vinterberg’s first drama series Families Like Ours, sold globally by Studiocanal, excluding France, Benelux and Scandinavia, handled by TrustNordisk.
