Magnolia Pictures has nabbed U.S. rights to Thomas Vinterberg's Cannes competish pic "The Hunt", for which Mads Mikkelsen won the fest's actor award for his perf as a kindergarten teacher who is falsely accused of child abuse.
Eamonn Bowles, prexy of Magnolia, said, "Thomas Vinterberg demonstrates his directorial mastery in his finest work since 'The Celebration,' and Mads Mikkelsen's performance more than validates his best actor award at Cannes."
Sales company TrustNordisk has also closed another sweep of deals, including Germany and Austria (WildBunch), Spain (Golem), Canada (Mongrel Media), Australia (Madman), Switzerland (Frenetic Films), Portugal (Midas Film), Turkey (Filma), Brazil (California Filmes), Japan (Kino Films Co.), Hong Kong (Edko), South Korea (Atnine) and Estonia (Estin Film).
Previously announced deals include U.K. (Arrow Films), Benelux (WildBunch), France (Pretty Pictures), Italy (Bim Distribuzione), Russia (Russian Report), Poland (KinoSwiat), Romania (Independenta Film ´97), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Cinemart), Greece (Seven Films), Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay (Speed Weel), Israel (Lev Cinemas), Colombia (Babille Cine), and former Yugoslavia and Albania (Cinemania Group).
Danish distribution is handled by Nordisk Film.
Cinematographer Charlotte Bruus Christensen received the Vulcain Prize of the Technical Artist for her work on the film, which also received the Ecumenical Jury Award at Cannes.
Pic was penned by Vinterberg and Tobias Lindholm, and produced by Sisse Graum Jorgensen and Morten Kaufmann for Zentropa.
