The Doha Tribeca Film Festival has rewarded Josef Fares with the title of best filmmaker for his film BALLS (2010).
At the second edition of Doha Tribeca Film Festival (Oct. 26-30th) Josef Fares has won the prize for best filmmaker in the section Arab film makers. With the honor follows a sustainable cash prize. Josef Fares has previously directed prizewinning and internationally acclaimed features like JALLA! JALLA! (2000),KOPS (2003), ZOZO (2005) and LEO (2007).
The Doha Tribeca Film Festival is a community event fostering a culture of Arab and international cinema through its parent organization the Doha Film Institute (DFI). The festival was founded in 2009 as cooperation between DFI and The Tribeca Film Festival in New York in order to get a sustainable film industry in Qatar.
Produced by Anna Anthony for Memfis film, BALLS is a heart-warming comedy about love and relationships, starring Josef FaresĀ“ own father, Jan Fares, in the lead role as Aziz (Farsan). BALLS premiered nationally in Sweden February this year.
