Willem Dafoe and Udo Kier rejoin with Lars von Trier in his upcoming project NYMPHOMANIAC, marking a completion of the international ensemble cast of over 60 and counting previously not announced names such as Jean-Marc Barr, Caroline Goodall, Kate Ashfield, Saskia Reeves, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Michaël Pas and Omar Shargawi.
Willem Dafoe reunites with Lars von Trier for the third time. Dafoe, nominated for an Academy Award® twice (SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE, 2000; PLATOON, 1986), starred in Trier's ANTICHRIST (2009) and MANDERLAY (2005). Dafoe has also worked with directors such as Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese, Alan Parker, David Cronenberg and Wes Anderson. Udo Kier is also familiar with Lars von Trier's work. Born in Cologne, Germany, Kier started working with Trier in 1988 in the film MEDEA and has since then starred in Trier's EUROPE (1991), BREAKING THE WAVES (1996), THE KINGDOM (1997), DOGVILLE (2003), MANDERLAY (2005) and MELANCHOLIA (2011).

NYMPHOMANIAC is the wild and poetic story of a woman´s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Gainsbourg). On a cold winter´s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Skarsgård), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.
