TrustNordisk is proud to announce that Marijana Janković’s debut feature HOME has been officially selected for the Big Screen Competition at International Film Festival Rotterdam. The festival runs from January 29th to February 8th, 2026.
HOME is a powerful drama based on a deeply personal story, exploring the emotional struggle of losing one’s home and adapting to a new one. Marking Marijana Janković’s directorial debut, the film features a strong international cast, including Dejan Čukić (SNABBA CASH), Zlatko Burić (TRIANGLE OF SADNESS), Trine Dyrholm (THE GIRL WITHTHE NEEDLE; IN A BETTER WORLD), Jesper Christensen (SENTIMENTAL VALUE; SPECTRE), and Claes Bang (THE SQUARE). In addition, Marijana Janković herself plays a central role in the film.
Marijana Janković, acclaimed for her work as both an actress and filmmaker, brings her distinctive voice to the screen with HOME. Her short film Maja won Best Narrative Short at the Tribeca Film Festival and has been celebrated on the international festival circuit, laying the foundation for her feature debut.
Synopsis:
In the hope of creating a better life, 6-year-old Maja and her parents leave Yugoslavia for Denmark, leaving behind Maja’s two older brothers with the promise they will join once the family is settled. But the new country proves difficult and unfamiliar, and the family struggles to adapt to a new language, culture, and way of life. As the years pass, Maja grows up and becomes a successful artist in Denmark, yet beneath her achievements, she carries a divide of joy, sorrow, and gratitude – torn between the life she has built and the painful sacrifices her parents made for their future.
HOME’s selection at International Film Festival Rotterdam marks an exciting milestone in its international journey, offering audiences and critics around the world a chance to experience this richly textured story of family, memory, and belonging.
HOME is directed by Marijana Jankovic and written by Marijana Janković, Babak Vakili, Emil Nygaard Albertsen & Bo Hr. Hansen.
