For TrustNordisk, Cannes 2011 was the best market in years. Besides having three titles officially selected - MELANCHOLIA in Competition, VOLCANO in Directors´ Fortnight and OUT OF BOUNDS in Special Screening - more than 50 deals were done to over 38 international distributors encapsulating all territories in the world, stretching from Asia to Middle East and including all the major players from the English speaking territories.
Upcoming projects presented for the first time, premiering with either short exclusives promos or few clips, were quickly snatched during Cannes. Forty percent of the deals closed were films in pre-production or production. Highlight was Nikolaj Arce´s epic drama A ROYAL AFFAIR, which sold to over nine of the biggest territories including US, Australia, UK, Germany, Benelux and Spain. Other title worth mentioning was COMRADE, Academy Award-nominee Petter Næss´ upcoming anti-war drama, which was picked up by Australia, UK and Spain amongst others.
TrustNordisk also presented one of the strongest European sellers at Cannes market this year, namely the Norwegian action-thriller HEADHUNTERS by Morten Tyldum, which took buyers by storm and which has been sold to over 25 countries before its international premiere. Closing deals on pitch only, the collaborative project between Martin Scorsese and Lars von Trier, THE FIVE OBSTRUCTIONS SCORSESE VS. TRIER, was purchased by distributors from US to Russia and bestseller author Camilla Läckberg came to Cannes to promote the prestigious and much anticipated project THE FJÄLLBACKA MURDERS. Finally, TrustNordisk was very proud, when Cannes Film Festival awarded Kirsten Dunst for her performance in MELANCHOLIA.
Despite a highly successful Cannes, however, TrustNordisk is already looking ambitiously forward.
Rikke Ennis, CEO: “Looking at our line-up for 2011, 2012 and yes, even 2013 I can proudly say that we will be representing the very best from the Nordic countries; ranging from high scale crime to acclaimed bestsellers novels as well as works from some of the most talented and inspiring directors in the North. We see huge commercial value and skilled quality in all upcoming projects, and with a company like Nordisk Film behind us, using its muscle, we look so much forward to continue the fruitful development and aim for even better results in the time coming. It´s going to be busy and it´s going to be fun.”
