06-10-2014

The Zentropa-produced film adaptation THE ABSENT ONE, based on Jussi Adler-Olsen´s bestselling book, sets records domestically.

THE ABSENT ONE which was released Thursday October 2nd has made more than 131.000 admissions during the first weekend.

With more than 194.500 admissions including pre-screenings, the film has become the best opening including pre-screenings ever for a local film in Denmark and the third best opening weekend for a local film ever.

THE ABSENT ONE is performing even better than its popular predecessor THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES which intrigued 725.000 Danes to go to the cinemas last year.

With the great opening of THE ABSENT ONE, director Mikkel Nørgaard also reaches a milestone in his career. With three features under his belt (KLOWN - THE MOVIE, 2010; THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES, 2013 and now THE ABSENT ONE, 2014 (all produced by Louise Vesth for Zentropa)) all of his films so far have become huge local box office hits. On the top list of best local opening weekends ever, his three films are to be found on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place.

THE ABSENT ONE reunites Nikolaj Lie Kaas (A SECOND CHANCE, 2014) and Fares Fares (CHILD 44, 2014 and ZERO DARK THIRTY, 2012) and tells the story of two young twins who are found brutally murdered in a summer cottage in 1994. A number of clues point in the direction of a group of young upper class students from a nearby boarding school, but the case is closed as a local outsider pleads guilty and is convicted for the murders.

Among cast members are also acclaimed actors Pilou Asbæk (LUCY, 2014 and A HIJACKING, 2012) and David Dencik (A ROYAL AFFAIR, 2012 and TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, 2011).

THE ABSENT ONE is produced by Louise Vesth, Jonas Bagger and Peter Aalbæk Jensen for the Zentropa Group in cooperation with TV 2 Danmark, ZDF German Television Network, ZDF Enterprises, TV4 Sverige, TV 2 Norge in co-production with Film i Väst.
