Actor Fares Fares has been added to the cast of the upcoming adaptation of Jussi Adler-Olsen´s THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES.
Fares Fares will play Hafez el Assad, the counterpart to Carl Mørck (Nikolaj Lie Kaas, previously announced as Carl Mørck).
Fares Fares´ international breakthrough came with the comedies JALLA! JALLA! (2000) and KOPPS (2003) before starring as Mahmoud in the box office hit EASY MONEY (2010) and its sequel, EASY MONEY II (2012). Fares Fares also appeared opposite Denzel Washington in Daniel Espinosa´s action thriller
SAFE HOUSE (2012).
Among previously announced cast members for THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES are Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Sonja Richter and Søren Pilmark.
Directed by Mikkel Nørgaard and with a screenplay by Nikolaj Arcel who also wrote the script for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (2009), THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES is based on the first book of Jussi Adler-Olsen´s bestselling thriller series about Department Q. It tells the story of the two policemen Carl Mørck and Hafez el Assad who get involved in a five-year-old case concerning a missing woman, Merete. Soon Mørck and Assad are on a journey through Scandinavia´s darkest corners to find a psychopathic killer.
THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES will be the first film in a series of four films all based on the books by Jussi Adler-Olsen. The following three films in the series are planned for release in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Fares Fares and Lie Kaas have signed on for all four films.
THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES is produced by Louise Vesth for Zentropa Entertainments20 in co-production with Zentropa Entertainments Berlin and ZDF Enterprises with support from The Danish Film Institute, Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, Nordic Film and TV Fund and Allerød Kommune in co-operation with TV2 Denmark and NFP Distribution Germany and developed with support from The MEDIA Programme of the European Union. More investors will be announced shortly.
Domestic release on THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES is set for autumn 2013 through Nordisk Film Distribution. TrustNordisk handles international sales.

THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES was published in 2007 and is so far followed by three books in the series about Department Q. The books have been awarded with numerous prizes and have been placed on several bestseller lists both nationally and internationally.
