Zentropa has just announced
part of the cast for the upcoming thriller THE ABSENT ONE, the second
instalment in the Department Q franchise based on the bestselling books by
Jussi Adler-Olsen.

As previously stated,
Nikolaj Lie Kaas (ANGELS & DEMONS, 2009) and Fares Fares (SAFE HOUSE,
2012
and ZERO DARK THIRTY, 2013) will reunite as Carl and Assad for the THE ABSENT
ONE. Added to the cast are acclaimed actors Pilou Asbæk and David
Dencik.
With leading roles in
critically acclaimed features such as Lindholm and Noer´s R (2010)
and
Lindholm´s hostage drama A HIJACKING (2012) as well as significant parts
in TV series such as BORGEN (2010-2013) and THE BORGIAS (2011-), Danish actor
Pilou Asbæk has rapidly become one of the most recognized actors in his home
country. In THE ABSENT ONE, Asbæk will be joined by his fellow actor from
THE
BORGIAS, David Dencik, who besides his career in Scandinavian cinema
has
given notable performances in a number of international films including
TINKER,
TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY (2011), THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (2011) and he
will
next be seen in THE HOMESMAN (2014) and Susanne Bier´s SERENA (2013).
Director Mikkel Nørgaard,
who also directed the first film in the upcoming franchise, THE KEEPER OF
LOST
CAUSES (2013), will direct THE ABSENT ONE with a script written by praised
scriptwriter duo Nikolaj Arcel and Rasmus Heisterberg (THE GIRL WITH THE
DRAGON
TATTOO, 2009 and A ROYAL AFFAIR, 2012).
Shooting is set to begin
later this month, on September 23rd.
Synopsis:
In 1994 two young twins are
found brutally murdered in a summer cottage.
A number of clues point in
the direction of a group of young upper class students from a nearby boarding
school, but the case is closed as a local outsider pleads guilty and is
convicted for the murders.
When the case ends up on
Carls Mørck´s desk 20 years later, he soon realises that something is
terribly
wrong. As Carl and Assad start investigating the case, they are led on to an
old emergency call from a desperate girl who seems to know the secrets of the
murders. Soon they are plunged into an intense search for the girl, Kimmie,
who
has been missing since the murders happened. But Carl and Assad are not the
only ones trying to track her down as the gir´s testimonial is of great
danger
to a group of influential men at the top of society who will do all they can
to
keep her silent.
THE ABSENT ONE is produced
by the Zentropa Group in cooperation with TV2 Denmark, ZDF German Television
Network, ZDF Enterprises, TV2 Norway and in co-production with Film i

Domestic release is set for
Autumn 2014 while the first instalment, THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES, which
recently world premiered at the Piazza Grande in Locarno to excellent reviews
will be released domestically on October 3rd 2013.
