The Kingdom Exodus, the third and final season of director Lars von Trier’s cult series that first aired almost 30 years ago, has been picked up by distributors across Europe, Japan and South Korea.

Denmark-based sales agent TrustNordisk revealed the show has been acquired by distributors in Benelux (September Films), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Aerofilms), Germany and Austria (Koch Films), Spain (Filmin), Japan (Synca Creations) and South Korea (AtNine).

The Kingdom Exodus sees von Trier complete his 1990s ghost story about a hospital built on top of the old bleaching ponds in Copenhagen, where evil has taken root.

The series follows sleepwalker Karen (Bodil Jørgensen) as she seeks answers after wandering into the darkness and inexplicably ending up in front of the hospital one night while sound asleep.

The cast also includes Lars Mikkelsen, Mikael Persbrandt, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, David Dencik and Alexander Skarsgård.

Von Trier has written the script in collaboration with Niels Vørsel. Louise Vesth is producing for Zentropa Entertainments with NENT Group and DR as coproducers.

The Kingdom Exodus will launch this autumn on Scandinavian streamer Viaplay and will have its linear TV premiere on Danish broadcaster DR.

Susan Wendt, MD of TrustNordisk, said: ”We are excited to be experiencing immense interest from buyers worldwide with several negotiations still going on and soon to be revealed. The first footage surely underlines the uniqueness of the series that continue to intrigue the global market.”
